Every 2 weeks the year 7 & 8's go to Greymouth High School for tech. My classes are science and sewing. When we first get inside we are usually the first people there. We then wait for the other schools and we go to our classes. Yesterday in science we made things float and my new friend and I did it together. The first thing we did was we got some baking paper and we could draw on it if we wanted. Next we glued it together and then we got a piece of wire and put a cotton ball on it. We then taped the wire onto the baking paper and we then went outside to see if they would float. Me and Abbie went and we put this purple stuff on the cotton ball and we got a lighter and lit it. Ours was starting to catch on fire. We then went back inside and we tried I think beeswax and we put it on a cloth and we tested it before actually doing it. After we tested it worked really well so then we did it. Next we made a parachute out of a cup, string and things like coloured plastic bags and we tested it with an egg outside. Then it was lunch. At lunch me and Johanna went on Chromebooks and we just did things on them. After lunch we went to sewing class and we made these bags. First we could choose a pattern we wanted. Then we ironed the two long sides of fabric and we went to our sewing machines. We sewed the long side bits and next we folded the bottom and the top and sewed it. Next we folded it half way and sewed that bit. We then got to choose a string to go on the inside of the bag to open and close. Then we had a bag we could close and open. Then we tidied the room and we went in lines in our school and we then went in the van and went back to school.
